Pictured overleaf is a Klein-Adler 2, the first portable typewriter and what is classed as the peak of the technology. Typewriters, first marketed in the 1890’s, are one of the longest lasting and most influential technologies in our history.

What has the typewriter got to do with architecture and building you say?

Well, the typewriter, in contrast to current trends in design and construction, represents for us long form thinking and discourse and long term decision making and design.
